Electronic cigarette companies are touting a safer way to smoke cigarettes with no tobacco. You can even smoke them in public. These electronic cigarettes are coming under harsh debate by those who would not have you get your nicotine fix in this way.

It has no tobacco and none of the many carcinogens that traditional cigarettes contain. It is marketed as an alternative to smoking and a way around the public smoking bans that have become so popular. They were made by a company in China a few years back and have been growing in popularity ever since.

Electronic cigarette purchasers have been coming back very happy with this product that allows them to smoke in public buildings, getting a quick nicotine fix without being a public outcast. The ease of use and financial benifit of spending less helps as well.

There are other nicotine replacement products like patches or gum, but none of them replicate the act of smoking. You cannot take a drag off a piece of gum or puff on a patch.

The FDA is worried that because they contain nicotine, electronic cigarettes are a new drug delivery device. The FDA would like the product to go through the approval process before being sold, but it might be too little too late with all the people who are tearing them off the shelves as a cheaper, safer way of smoking.

The idea that these contain fewer poisons than tobacco cigarettes, are cheaper as well, and can be smoked in any public place comes together in the minds of converts. These are the big three reasons why so many people are trying this new technology. Smokers have been social pariahs since the public smoking ban hit, and now they can get their fix anywhere.

Competitors to the original product are everywhere, so companies are striving to create the best electronic cigarette they can. The electronic cigarette also has some competition from smoking cessation products like gum and patches. Everyone has been surprised by electronic cigarettes, and everone is trying to get in on the market.

Some of these products are made overseas and several brands are made in America as well. Regulations are currently being hammered out, but the fact that they are cheaper and have less harmful ingredients have smokers lining up for them. It does not hurt that they are also a semi-green alternative since they produce less waste than traditional methods.

When you go to get your first e-cigarette make sure that you are getting the right one. There are a couple to choose from and they all do not work the same. If you are about to order one, you might want to order a starter kit. It is less expensive and if you do not like the particular brand you order, you can switch to another less expensively. Most starter kits will come with two batteries, the atomizer or flow censor and two boxes of filters. You might think that it is a little pricey at first, but it will pay for itself rather quickly. With the costs of cigarettes going up all the time, this kit will equal two cartons of the regular cigarettes you buy.

With so many of you trying to quit, cut down, or just trying to find a safer way to smoke, it is important to find something that is going to work for you without costing you a fortune. In your kit you will receive two boxes of filters and one filter will be equal to a pack of regular cigarettes. In these boxes you get five filters so this one box is equal to five packs of cigarettes. The batteries will last for months and to make your filters last longer, you can order nicotine liquid and refill them yourself. When you first start using an e-cigarette you will notice that you really do not want the tobacco cigarette because you are still getting the nicotine. The more you use it, the less cigarettes you need or want to buy.

If you happen to be a heavy smoker, using the electric cigarette even part time can cut your habit in half almost right from the start. You are getting your fix of nicotine and eliminating the thousands of chemicals and tar you get from smoking tobacco. There is no smoke as you are inhaling a water vapor and you are also sending out a vapor that evaporates quickly. You are no longer getting the taste of burned paper or glue and you are not sending out any secondhand smoke.

There is also no residue involved in smoking an electric cigarette along with no noticeable odor. These are also benefits that a smoker will appreciate about an electric cigarette. So if this smoking device is cleaner, safer, more convenient, and cheaper to use, why have you not tried it yet if you smoke?

If you are aggravated by pay the high price they are charging for cigarettes these days, then maybe you should try the first real smoking alternative. If you want to stop taking in all of the chemicals and tar you get from tobacco cigarettes, but you still want to enjoy the taste and sensation you get from smoking, then it might be time to try an electric cigarette.

If you have never heard of this new product, there are things about it you will definitely like if you smoke. First of all, there are studies that have been done that show that smoking an electric cigarette is likely to be far less harmful to you than smoking the tobacco cigarettes that are filled with unnecessary deadly chemicals and the tar that is produced and enters your body when you light one up. The electric cigarette does deliver nicotine to your system like a traditional one, but you do not light it. It is battery operated and the liquid nicotine in the filter is only heated. The taste and sensation is so similar to a real one, many people can not even tell the difference.

There are other advantages yet about this new product. The electric cigarette does not produce deadly secondhand smoke because it does not produce smoke at all, only water vapor that appears to be smoke. It is almost completely odorless and does not stain things the way tobacco smoke does. You can smoke it in your car and your home without worrying about damaging your things and making the interior of the home and car smell bad. Since you do not have to light the electric cigarette, there is no risk of setting fire to the home or car or causing those unsightly cigarette burns to your furniture, carpets, or other belongings. Your clothes and your person will no longer smell like a cigarette.

The one other things about this product is that it is cheaper to use than traditional cigarettes as well. You can purchase the starter kits that will cost you around 70 to 100 dollars that come with everything you need. You can buy either new nicotine filled filters for about two dollars and each filter is about one pack of cigarettes. If you had prefer it, you can buy the nicotine liquid that and refill your filters yourself and save even more money that way. All in all the electric cigarette appears to be a much safer way to smoke, a cheaper way to smoke, and has far less annoying issues to deal with like odor and stains.

“We are tired of being robbed by our own government,” states Todd Durand of Tennessee. “And now they want to take our ability to have a reasonable alternative to the highly taxed and deadly cigarettes that they seem to protect at the expense of the people they pretend to protect and serve”.

The internet is full of buzz over the new tobacco legislation that is hailed as the best tobacco bill to ever hit the hill, but many experts are stating that it is noting more than smoke and mirrors to protect big tobacco, the pharmaceutical companies, and special interests over the health and well being of the average American.

The trend seems to be growing and may cause a windfall of fresh people and ideas in political offices across the country which most hope will change the tide of growing disregard for the will of the people across the country.
“NewsChannel 8 took an undercover camera to a kiosk where a child, accompanied by her mother, listened to the sales pitch. There also is a sign that clearly reads the products are for adults 18 and up.”

In the same article, the Attorney General of Oregon states that he fears the products may be marketed to children because of the typical “they have flavors” mantra of anti-smoking-alternative groups. That’s all they can seem to come up with when it comes to e-cigarette attack strategies; they have flavors, therefore they must be for children. This assumes that adults don’t have tastebuds, which anyone who loves to eat fruit knows just isn’t true. Oregon’s AG also wants Smoking Everywhere to prove that their products are safe, while doing nothing to stop the sale of products called “energy shots”, which are also readily available to children.

On this news article, the author states:

“According to the American Cancer Society, the e-cigarette has no published clinical trials that suggest it might work as a way to help smokers quit.”

The American Cancer Society is full of crap. There have been studies performed in the UK and New Zealand by government recognized and accredited research laboratories concerning the brands of Gamucci and Ruyan, respectively. These products are generally the same with the same typical ingredients and no known health complaints from users currently exist. The main chemical that special interest groups initially had a problem with was the propylene glycol, but upon further inspection, propylene glycol is extremely common both as a food additive and in products meant to be absorbed by the human body, including lotions, shampoos, bath salts, and et cetera.

There are many products on the market that are not approved by the FDA, such as “energy shots” (mentioned above), “stackers”, and male enhancement products such as Extenze and Enzyte that grace late night television. “Final Smoke” and other so-called “natural” smoking cessation aids are not governed by the FDA, either, and have been pretty much ignored completely. The hundreds of weight loss products on the market that are not FDA approved are not pulled from the market until they have injured thousands of people, so what is the problem with giving the e-cigarette industry the same benefit of the doubt? The FDA has done nothing to remove any of these other products from the market, despite their “health claims”.

However, it doesn’t seem that many people are falling for special interest group battle cries, since reading the comments on these news articles (at least, the few that allow comments) reveals a publc outcry concerning government and public interest stances on the products. Smokers who have quit smoking cigarettes using the products are outraged at the threat to ban the products, many stating that they would do what they have to in order to continue being able to obtain the products online. User testimonies flood the internet in comment boxes and forums and the war is long from over.

The American Cancer Society; the American Heart Association, and the American Lung Association have all had experts state that there is no proof that the e-cigarette is safe and that they may attract the youth of this nation and entice them to start smoking.

The facts are that they are not the “public health officials” they are reported to be. They are in fact private foundations that are not governmental in nature and the people or “experts” as they are referred to have in the past and are present operated by funding from large pharmaceutical companies. One pharmaceutical company in particular has a money trail of 99 million from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to these three special interest groups. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has an estimated 700 million worth of stock in Johnson and Johnson, whose products are probably found in your medicine cabinet at this very moment.

The two main points of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundations were that “(1) the Foundation encouraged its grantees to be activists; (2) advocacy was emphasized to bring about policy change”, and in their own chilling words, they “provided financial support and, in particular, funds to help lobbying efforts which the Foundation could not support directly.” Then there is the title of this release where the e cigarette industry is looked upon as a threat to their revenues.

The e cigarette industry has sponsored three known studies on the products to prove that they are safe and the studies are public. The studies were completed by two different government approved clinical studies labs, one in the United Kingdom, LPD Lab Services, which is governmentally certified by the United Kindom Accreditation Service. In the UKAS’s own words, “accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators.” In light of this, the accusations that the study was biased due to it being funded by the brand that was being tested can be considered to be without merit and much the same can be said for the tests performed in New Zealand, since they were also performed by a internationally recognized company called Health New Zealand.

Health New Zealand was founded by Dr Murray Laugesen in 1995 after serving a full 18 years as an established medical officer in the Ministry of Health and in the Public Health Commission. He is one of the most recognized anti-smoking health practitioners in New Zealand and Australia and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a medal from the World Health Organization in 1998 “for achievements deemed worthy of international recognition in promoting the concept of tobacco-free societies.” Dr. Laugesen claims that after having performed tests on e-cigarettes, they are 100 to 1,000 times safer than commercial tobacco cigarettes.

Considering that the pharmaceutical smoking cessation market is a 3 billion dollar cash cow annually, is it any wonder why millions of people are questioning special interest groups and the FDA about their stance on e-cigarettes?

In recent times, smokers have been looking for more and more ways to kick the nasty habit that can leave the lungs full of tar, their teeth stained, breath smelly, and even have serious health complications. Well, there is currently a product out there that many smokers have turned to as an effect means of quitting smoking. That product is the electronic cigarette. The electronic cigarette is a device that simulates smoking without inhaling most of the toxic and addicting chemicals put in cigarettes by the cigarette companies. While they are not FDA approved as of yet, the electronic cigarette is growing in popularity due to being considered healthier than normal cigarettes by some well noted medical professionals.

The electronic cigarette is popular among smokers because it takes out a key root word of smoker. It takes out the smoke. Instead of using flame or tobacco, the electronic cigarette uses a vapor. This is why many people call it smokeless. There is no real smoke to inhale, only vapor. One more aspect of the electronic cigarette is that it is rechargeable and comes with refillable nicotine cartridges which are the equivalent of a whole pack of cigarettes. They also cost less than a pack of cigarettes, so you would be saving money. Many smokers also say that the electronic cigarette has almost the same taste as a normal cigarette, so you do not lose the taste. Since the electronic cigarette is, obviously, electronic, that means that it must be charged, which really does not take long at all.

Another thing that makes the electronic cigarette a popular item is that the smoke does not leave behind a nasty smell like conventional cigarettes. The vapor is odorless and will not cause annoyance for the people you may socialize with. The electronic cigarette will also not leave a smell on your breath, so that is an added bonus to anyone that hangs out with you, as well.

The electronic cigarette, while not yet approved by the FDA, is growing increasingly popular and the number of satisfied customers heavily outnumbered the dissatisfied ones. The electronic cigarette has a high amount of people who have actually managed to quit smoking without giving up the habit entirely. So, if you feel that you would like to quit smoking without actually quitting smoking, then this is really the best, if not the only, option you really have.

While the e-cigarette manufacturers and retailers believe they are on the same side of health organizations who want people to stop using tobacco, some anti-smoking campaigns are hostile to the idea.

Cheryl Healton, President and CEO of the American Legacy Foundation, is concerned that the product could be used to slow down the quitting process.

Even amid all of this, e-cigarettes are still rolling out to the public.
On the same article, Joe Piscapo is of a similar mindset: “If they ban electronic cigarettes, I feel that people will start to freak out, myself included.
On NBCbayarea.com, xtobacco smoker is a little more critical of the FDA, saying, “have it, love it, highly suggest it to anyone who wants to stop smoking tobacco and still ’smoke’… can even work your way down to 0 nicotine. Smoked for 15 years, I can’t even stand the smell of regular tobacco. FDA will find something wrong with it… if you enjoy it the FDA will say it is not good for you.”

With comments like these, it is unclear at this point what will happen to e-cigarettes. This parade is lead by the backdoor politician, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ). This seemingly health conscious senator, who has taken well over $100,000 from the pharmaceutical companies that market smoking cessation products, is trying to ban a product that offers none of the carcinogens of traditional tobacco cigarettes.

Electronic cigarettes vaporize a water-based solution that gives the user the sensation of smoking while emitting only a light water vapor. This eliminates the public concern of secondhand smoke as well as cutting out all the carcinogens associated with tobacco and the chemicals used in tobacco cigarette production.

Senator Lautenberg claims the FDA should run extensive testing on these products to “verify” their safety, but many are concerned that stance is contrary to the American principle of “innocent until proven guilty”. Many doctors believe that halting this far less harmful smoking alternative would, ironically, save the pharmaceutical companies that market smoking cessation products billions of dollars a year.

A few people have spoken up for e-cigarettes, most notably Chair of the Tobacco Control Group for the American Association of Public Health Physicians, Dr. Joel L. Nitzkin, who has stated his vigorous opposition of Senator Lautenberg’s proposals. He and many other reasonable individuals are convinced that it is harmful to public health to ban a product that is by default far less dangerous than its traditional counterpart and put what amounts to a government seal of approval on the more dangerous product. Not only that, but many complain that Senator Lautenberg is not a medical professional.

Who should our lawmakers and the FDA be listening to? Should we listen to a non-medically licensed politician whose motives align themselves with the big pharmaceutical companies he protects or should we listen to the health professionals that are all but screaming for us to actually pay attention to our country’s real health issues?

When a government is in the pockets of private companies, we run dangerously close to abandoning our democratic process and a government that will sacrifice the health of its citizens is a government by the money, for the money. Let’s tell our politicians that the people are the government and politicians can only ignore their constituents for so long before their game runs out.
